Apocalypse Now

This Internet thing is getting out of hand. At what point do we consider someone 'overexposed' to what the Internet can offer? At what point does a person cross the line from casual browser, to full on Webaholic? Is there some suggested formula for a healthy relationship with the Internet? It seems our problem is only getting worse with the new addition of "always on" devices. The technology is moving at an alarming rate and Congress is moving alarmingly slow. This begs the question, will the Internet ruin the human race? Who says a deadly, incurable virus will end humanity as we know it? If you asked me what is the biggest threat to humanity I'd say 'the Internet.' Who's to say a 'Mean Girls' situation is beyond reason? Where everyone's dirt is out in the open, where 100% transparency is finally achieved. I believe that this transparency will lead to anarchy, and ultimately the end of humanity as we know it. Is this what humans are? Savage, jealous, devious, backstabbing animals who lust for power? Does the Internet give humanity TOO much power? I truly fear that we are approaching the point of no return. The point where the "always on" Internet will grow beyond our control. The question is can we save humanity from itself before it's too late? SHOULD we even attempt to save humanity? I say no. Let the world burn, let the Internet destroy us in hopes that the second iteration of life on earth will be better than the first. We've done enough damage, and it really feels like the end is nearer than we care to admit. All it takes is a simple line of code, a supervirus to take over our nuclear weapons, Skynet style, and lay our existence to waste. The Internet is helping hackers collaborate & improve their craft (see Anonymous). It doesn't even have to be that complicated. All it takes is the right tool in the wrong hands to end humanity as we know it. Remember that Honesty Box thing? I lost a ton of trust and faith in humanity after that. The Internet is leading humanity to extinction and we only have ourselves to blame. Without some sort of fail safe or control the Internet will run wild, ultimately destroying the human race. Can we take preventive measures before it's too late?? I'm sure Google has all the answers we need. #Irony
